Yes, you can have a tow bar on a Peugeot 3008 Hybrid!
We’ve had loads of calls from people who can’t get an aftermarket tow bar fitted on their Peugeot 3008 hybrid.
There are a couple of reasons people are finding difficulty getting a tow bar for the 3008 hybrids, keep reading to find out why.
Firstly there’s the tow bar itself, only a few tow bar manufacturers are actually making the 3008 hybrid bars. The reason for this is the predicted sales they will make from the tow bar. With most people probably not purchasing the 3008 hybrid as a tow car (Max tow weight 1250kg) the amount of tow bars sold for towing will be very low. Towbar manufacturers concentrate on high-volume sales rather than catering for vehicles where there are fewer around. Got a standard 3008 and there are plenty of choices, but not so much for the hybrid..
The second reason people are having a nightmare getting a tow bar for the 3008 hybrid is the electrics. Only type-approved dedicated electrics can be fitted to the vehicle. Try putting a universal or bypass electrics kit on and you’re going to be left with a hefty bill to rectify any damage to the car’s wiring. Peugeot even warns you of this by attaching a large unmissable sticker to the wiring loom behind the rear nearside boot panel. As many tow bar fitters only fit universal bypass wiring this stops them from working on the hybrid car’s electrics.
Once the dedicated electrics are fitted the car then needs a software update. This activates the towing features and also stops DIY fitters, as most will not have the expensive tool and software required to carry out this update.
