Many tow bar companies do not offer tow bar fitting to hybrid or fully electric vehicles. This is mainly down to the complex electronics and the extra care required when working on them.
In some cases, getting a tow bar that fits will often depend on how the manufacturer has designed the vehicle. If, for instance, the EV high-voltage battery has been fixed in place using the chassis towbar mounts, or if the battery covers access to the tow bar mount points, then it is not possible for any tow bar to be fitted. (We can advise on this)
If you’re planning on towing with an EV then firstly you need to check the vehicle has a tow weight, this will be found in your vehicle handbook or on the chassis plate, mostly located on the passenger door pillar. If the vehicle doesn’t have a tow weight, but you want a tow-bar-mounted bike carrier, then see the paragraph below.
If you just want to use your tow bar for a tow bar-mounted cycle-carrier then you do not need to have a tow weight, cycle carriers are not required to have a tow weight as they are not classified as being towed. (Towing requires wheels that make contact with the ground.)
Fitting tow bars to electric and hybrid vehicles can be a complex task and does take longer than fitting to a conventional fuelled vehicle.

One thing we do not recommend is self-fitting or getting an unapproved or inexperienced person to fit a tow bar to an electrical vehicle. The high-voltage system is dangerous and making a mistake can be deadly and a lot worse than just frying your vehicle.
