How much for a tow bar?

It all depends on the type of tow bar, the sort of electrics you need fitted, and who is fitting it.

What we can tell you is that tow bar supply and fitting isn’t cheap.

With new vehicles having high-tech parts and the need for aftermarket parts to be compatible, the cost of supplying and fitting tow bars is increasing. Gone are the days of bolting the tow bar to the vehicle and then splicing into the lighting loom to get the correct wire for the tow bar light functions.

Today’s modern vehicles require parts that are designed specifically for the vehicle. Tow bars have to be specifically designed and officially approved for use on the vehicle. Modern tow bar electrics need to be specific for the vehicle and use manufacturer-approved connections to the wiring loom. These are essential for vehicles under a manufacturer guarantee, on finance or Motability vehicles.

Vehicles with ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) require the approved parts and need a software update where required.

This would be for a simple fixed flange commercial tow bar with approved vehicle-specific electrics, vehicle software update and fitting at the customer’s address. For our most expensive tow bars, you’re probably looking at our larger motorhome tow bars that require chassis extensions and specialist wiring, these can range around £2000.
