Great news… We now have access to the approved dedicated electrical components for the 2024 Model 3 Tesla and onwards models.
Previously, we’ve only been able to fit tow bars to Teslas manufactured before 2024 due to a vehicle update from Tesla.
The 2024 Tesla Model 3, also known as the “Highland” update, is a facelifted version of the electric car with several improvements to the interior and exterior:
The Model 3 features a new design for the bonnet and rear lights, along with a slightly raised hood to enhance aerodynamics.
Inside, the Model 3 has a new steering wheel with integrated indicator controls, redesigned seats that are heated and ventilated, and an updated 15.4-inch central touchscreen. There’s also an 8-inch screen for rear-seat passengers and new mood lighting.
The new tow bar wiring connects to the Tesla purpose-designed connector that sits behind the rear bumper. We use the same brand of tow bar as would be fitted by Tesla.
When not being used, the tow bar can be detached, and with the electrics socket swinging away under the bumper, it’s hard to tell if a tow bar is fitted or not.
If you intend to tow with your Tesla, then before getting a tow bar fitted to a Model 3, we always suggest you check the towing capacity. This will be given on the vehicle’s chassis plate or can be found in the handbook.
For those intending to just use the tow bar for a cycle carrier, there is no need to check the tow weight. The carrier isn’t being towed and, as such, is not a tow weight.
