Our take

  • For two e-bikes: choose the Pro-User Diamant FG2. Its 60 kg rating is substantially higher than the Thule’s 46 kg and the other two options. Check the car’s towbar nose-weight: rack + bikes must not exceed it. The manufacturer’s manual shows that a 75 kg-rated towbar limits the usable bike load to about 58 kg once the rack is included. • For a premium, lighter, compact all-rounder: choose the Thule VeloCompact 924021. It has excellent usability—tool-free pre-assembly, foot-operated tilt, locking arms and strong warranty support. It is 3.4 kg lighter than the Pro-User, though it has less capacity and only 19 cm between bikes. Thule technical specifications, JE James listing
  • For the strongest value proposition: the Buzz Rack Eazzy 2 is compelling. At £297, it is much cheaper than the Thule, is the lightest to mount at 11.6 kg, folds very narrowly, has both bike/rack locks, and offers more separation between bikes (28 cm). It is suitable for e-bikes only up to 20 kg each. Roofbox product details
  • For low-cost, light conventional bikes: the Maypole BC3012 is adequate and is the cheapest at £209.95, but its 30 kg total limit makes it unsuitable for most e-bikes and marginal for two heavier mountain bikes. Its 16 kg own weight also means it is not especially easy to handle relative to its capacity. Towsure product details

A quick word bout cycle-carrier lighting.

Please ensure the carrier lighting is UK road legal. There are many bike carriers being sold that have a left-side fog light. These are not legal to use on UK roads.
